#VolunteersWeek Spotlight – Steven
Steven was originally supported by Aberdeen FC Community Trust’s (AFCCT) staff based at Northfield Academy and they soon recognised him as a compassionate and non-judgemental young person who was keen to help his peers.
Steven then joined the AFCCT Youth Ambassador’s programme, which supports 14 to 19 -year-olds to gain essential skills, qualifications and experience to become role models and sports coaches in their local community. He settled in well and quickly became someone that the staff and volunteers enjoyed working with whilst being a great ambassador for the programme.
The next step for Steven was to join the AFCCT volunteer team where he is involved in 9 programmes, delivering 750 hours over the last 2 years! These programmes include the Health Walks, Technogym, Pittodrie Community Hub, Memories Groups, Mascots, Can Collections, Events, Go Fitba and Youth Ambassadors. Steven looks out for other members of the team when carrying out tasks, he is forward thinking and will always help when he is asked.
Steven also keeps in contact with some of the Youth Ambassadors who he connected with, regularly encouraging them to get involved in AFCCT volunteering wherever they can.
All of this and he is still only 19yrs old!! Through AFCCT, Steven has completed a number of courses, including Health Walk Leader and Dementia Friends with the willingness to complete any training he is offered.
Steven’s eagerness to be involved in a variety of activities has led to him gaining experience that helps AFCCT staff with delivering sessions and gives the opportunity to support more participants. His commitment as a volunteer is greatly appreciated by all at the Trust alongside being a fantastic role model for young volunteers in the North-East.
