Brothers take on Mighty challenge of all Kiltwalks in aid of AFCCT

Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) hit a new record with their highest number of participants walking in aid of the charity at the Aberdeen Kiltwalk 2025. The Kiltwalk is set to take place on Sunday 1 June with the challenge kicking off at Duthie Park and embarking on an 18-mile ‘Mighty Stride’ along the scenic Deeside route.

Among the record-breaking number are brothers, Richard and Stuart Douglas, who have taken their fundraising efforts to the next level by not only participating in the Aberdeen Kiltwalk but all four walks across the nation including Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow. Both volunteering for AFCCT in their spare time, the brothers decided to take on this incredible challenge in memory of their dad – who sadly passed away last year – whilst raising vital funds for the Trust. Having already tackled Glasgow, the brothers are preparing to take on Aberdeen this weekend which will take them to halfway through their challenge.

Richard, who is entering his tenth year of volunteering at AFCCT, commented on his first-hand experience with the work that AFCCT do. “The positive impact the Trust makes within our community is fantastic, and I’d even go as far as saying it is life changing and in some cases, lifesaving.”

Walking over a total of 72 miles, the brothers anticipate a hard challenge ahead but are not short on experience having completed marathons and sponsored swims in the past. Despite the miles, Richard and Stuart are excited to be taking on a new challenge with Richard looking forward to “The general camaraderie and support amongst all participants.”

Walking alongside the siblings will be other dedicated AFCCT volunteers, staff and supporters of the Trust including Well-Safe Solutions and Dolphin Drilling, who have both chosen AFCCT as their Charity of the Year.

Commenting on the fantastic uptake this year, Business Development and Partnership Manager Duncan Peter commented:

“It is wonderful to see so many people deciding to take on the challenge with AFCCT as their chosen charity. So many people dedicate their extra hours to us and we hugely appreciate the support. Hopefully the sun on the day is shining for the volunteers, staff and supporters who are coming together!”
