On Tuesday 21st April the ever popular Get Outdoors programme returned to the Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) schedule. The Get Outdoors programme was launched in November as part of a wider effort to offer support and opportunity for members of the community over the age of 65.

The new block of Get Outdoors kicked-off at Pittodrie on Tuesday morning with around 15 participants and involved a Health Walk to the beach in glorious sunshine before heading back to the stadium for a well-earned cup of tea and biscuits!

Over the next 8 weeks the group will have access to Health Walks, park based activities, reminiscence sessions, and a host of physical activity from Ceilidh Dancing to Yoga and everything in between.

AFCCT has been able to run these sort of programmes thanks to funding from Aberdeen City Council and the NHS's Change Fund, which provides organisations the funds to help keep people over the of 65 active, healthy, and also provide the opportunity to make new friends and interact with people of similar age throughout the year.

David Smith, AFCCT Community Projects Officer said, ‘We are currently engaging with around 70 people a week who are over the age of 65 to help promote physical activity for people with different abilities, and tackle social isolation. We are delighted Get Outdoors has been such a success and we look forward to attracting more people to our groups over the summer.’
