Aberdeen FC Community Trust is delighted to have School of Football up and running for another academic year!

School of Football is a project based in Northfield Academy with the aim of developing the social and academic skills of the young people there.  

The initiative was designed on the basis that the pupils would learn many new skills that could be developed while working in a football environment which could then be transferred to school work and social situations.

School of Football also aims to improve the attendance of school pupils as well as developing them into positive role models in the school community.

At the end of the first year of School of Football two pupils were awarded with trophies at an achievement assembly.

McKenzie Milne was presented with the most improved player of the year award, while McKenzy McDonald won the player of the year with 100% attendance!

Laura Westland, AFCCT Assistant Community Coach based at Northfield Academy said, “I am extremely proud of the boys for winning these awards and of all the pupils for their hard work they have dedicated to the project.

“Since School of Football began we have seen great improvements attendance, attitudes towards school work and enthusiasm to become roles models for younger pupils starting at the Academy.”

Headteacher at Northfield Academy Mike Will added, “Our partnership with AFCCT to deliver School of Football in Northfield Academy has empowered young people to express themselves through sport and enabled them to be confident, optimistic and ambitious for their future as learners.

“Undoubtedly, School of Football is a great opportunity for young people to broaden their perspectives through new experiences and is just another example of why Northfield Academy is the best school for local young people to attend and aspire to be outstanding.”
