International School Boy Match - Scotland vs Wales

Recently, Inverurie Loco Works FC successfully hosted their first School Boy International Match between Scotland and Wales at Harlaw Park, Inverurie. The Aberdeen FC Community Trust in partnership with Inverurie Loco Works FC and the Garioch Sports Centre gave a number of children in the Inverurie area the chance to watch the action for free.

A crowd of over 800 watched a thrilling match between the Scotland and Wales under 18 School Boys. The majority of the crowd on the night were made up of young primary school children.   Prior to the match, AFCCT Community Coach (Inverurie) Stephen Boddie visited a number of schools in the Inverurie area to hand out free tickets to every child and promote the game. The Garioch Sports Centre and Inverurie Locos mascots (Garioch and Harlaw the Bear) also accompanied Stephen on the school visits to the delight of the children.   Furthermore, the local Inverurie community club Colony Park were invited to take part in 4v4 matches at half-time. The 16 Colony Park 2008’s were able to showcase their footballing skills to the crowd. One of Stephen’s roles is to create a full player pathway In the Inverurie area from grassroots to adult football. This includes developing stronger links between the juvenile, amateur, juniors clubs to feed into the Locos.   AFC Community Trust Community Coach (Inverurie) Stephen Boddie said;  “First of all, I would like to congratulate Inverurie Locos for hosting their first ever International Match at Harlaw Park. I was able to witness first-hand the hard work and organisation that goes into planning such an event by a number of people, which really highlights the community spirit in Inverurie and the Locos.”   “It was also fantastic to see so many school children from the local area attending the game.
