This Saturday we get set for an annual celebration of all things Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) as Aberdeen welcome Ross County to Pittodrie for AFCCT Day.
This fixture, now in its 4th season, will take on additional significance with the club and AFCCT winning ‘Best Professional Club’ in the prestigious 2019 UEFA Grassroots Awards.
Ahead of this Saturday’s match, AFC Chairman Dave Cormack has this message for the Red Army:
Over the past few years, our partner charity Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) has been providing support and opportunity to change lives for the better in the North East of Scotland.
During that time AFCCT has delivered several award-winning programmes in the North East, using the power of sport to release the potential of all members of this community and beyond.
The lifelong affiliation of our fans is something that AFC is so very proud of and the impact of our work in the community is testament to our belief in giving back with programmes supporting those from the age of 3 to 93, with almost 1 million participations in its short history!
Focusing on three key pillars, the Community Trust delivers content to better Healthy Communities through innovative programmes in support of health and wellbeing within all age groups in the community, our Football For Life theme aims to provide football activities across all age groups and our Education theme provides innovative education programmes to harness the potential for all.
To find out more on what activities and programmes our Community Trust deliver or how to take part please view our impact report here.
Since day one, the Community Trust has contributed to national and international health and wellbeing initiatives and their work was the primary contributing factor for AFC being named as the Best Professional Club in the Community in Europe as recognised by UEFA through their prestigious Grassroots Awards.
The next chapter started earlier this month with the appointment of Liz Bowie as Chief Executive, her task will be to lead our exciting plans for growth over the next 5 years including expanding our Children’s & Education Services, using Cormack Park to build community capacity, exploring further innovative Club Partnerships such as our collaboration with Inverurie Loco Works FC, and the scaling of our MINDSET mental wellbeing programme in partnership with Grassroot Soccer.
With this, we want you to become advocates for our Community Trust and talk about the fabulous work we do in the community: spread the word and get involved!
To celebrate our amazing achievements, we are encouraging you – the Red Army – to attend our annual Community Trust match against Ross County on Saturday 22nd February where you will have the opportunity to find out more about the work of the Community Trust.
If you would like to help fund our amazing work in the community, I would encourage you to donate here.
