Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) is delighted to have continued support from leading Geo-data specialists Fugro of the STEM football and education programme.
STEM is a six-week programme for primary pupils across the city and shire in particular targeting the upper stages.
Thanks to Fugro’s support a total of 115 hours of STEM was delivered in partner schools and this year we hope to expand this further.
Pupils are introduced to the four pillars of STEM; science, technology, engineering and mathematics giving them the opportunity to develop their general understanding of the subjects.
Throughout the programme pupils are introduced to the Sphero bolt robots, learning about all the different functions of the robots, coding skills and how this can be applied.
Pupils then focus on the role of sports science within professional sport, with an introduction to fitness testing, experiencing examples on how to conduct tests, following protocol and recording data.
Since Fugro started supporting our STEM programme we have seen it grow across the city and shire with it being delivered within our partner primary schools. Throughout the 2022/23 academic year we have seen 822 STEM participants, showing an increase of 33% year-on-year.
This academic year we have been able to introduce it into Ellon Primary School and Meiklemill Primary School.
Kevin Chambers, Aberdeen Hub Manager at Fugro commented, “We feel it’s essential for us to support our local communities and prepare for a better tomorrow. The STEM programme by Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust is a great opportunity for our youth to develop their education and test their knowledge with real-life examples.
Following last year’s success, we’re excited to continue our support and increase the impact across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.”
